Youth
Sunnyside has a long tradition of nurturing youth through education, fellowship, service and an intentional focus on our multigenerational community. With Sunday morning classes, Sunday night fellowship, retreats, and worship leadership, youth are a vital part of the ministry of Sunnyside.
Youth Classes
Classes are offered for all youth at Sunnyside from Sixth Grade through Twelfth Grade on Sunday mornings from 11:00 a.m. – 11:40 a.m. Taught by adult volunteers, these classes help to build on the solid education that Sunnyside provides for younger children.
The Junior High class (Grade 6 through 8) focuses primarily on study of the Bible. Using curriculum from the Presbyterian Church (USA), students are on a two year rotation - one year studying the Old Testament and the next the New Testament. Youth are presented with a larger picture of the biblical story, helping to increase their overall Bible literacy and teaching them how to use the Bible as a tool for their own faith lives.
The Senior High class (Grades 9 through 12) has a much more relaxed atmosphere. Youth are given a chance to wrestle with larger faith issues especially as they impact both their daily living and the larger global community. This class provides a place where youth may ask hard questions and discuss together where we find the answers, whether it be in Scripture, our church traditions, our families or so many other influences in the lives of young people today.
Confirmation classes are offered each school year for youth currently in 8th Grade. These supplementary classes taught by our Associate Pastor help youth to better understand Scripture and our Presbyterian traditions as well as what it means for each of them to confess faith in Jesus Christ in today's world. Confirmation class typically meets on Sunday afternoons.
