Music Programming

Song is a response which engages the whole self in prayer. Song unites the faithful in common prayer wherever they gather for worship whether in church, home, or another special place. The covenant people have always used the gift of song to offer prayer. Psalms were created to be sung by the faithful as their response to God. Though they may be read responsively or in unison, their full power comes to expression when they are sung. (Directory for Worship, Presbyterian Church ( USA )

Sunnyside prides itself on its quality music programs. We provide a variety of opportunities for anyone who wishes to help lead this community of faith in worship and to develop their God-given gifts in music. All members are encouraged to consider how they might participate in the musical life of Sunnyside. We are also joined in worship by talented guest soloists and instrumentalists throughout the year.

Our Chancel Choir leads our worship service each Sunday and often for funerals and other special times of worship. This choir sings a wide sacred repertoire from all musical periods and enjoys the musical development, social outlet, and spiritual growth of their time together. Of particular note is the Choir's Christmas Cantata sung during Advent each December.

Sunnyside's Bell Choir is a particular joy to this congregation. Playing in worship at least once a month, this group of adults brings an especially thoughtful and lovely expression of praise to our community's worship. The Bell Choir also performs outside of the church in local Bell Choir events and as an outreach effort to the community.

We have recently celebrated the creation of a new smaller women's choir over the past year. The Sunnyside Sisters is a small group of women who sing a wide variety of choral music both with accompaniment and a cappella.

Our Music Director and adult volunteers also lead two choirs for Sunnyside's children. Sunnyside Voices includes children in grades 2 through 5. The Angelic Choir is for children from three years old through 1 st Grade. These choirs give children a chance both to develop their musical gifts and to increase their knowledge of sacred music.
