An introduction for children entering and continuing on in pre-school will be held in August. Children will have fun with art, music, snack and stories relating to the Bible. The Preview to Pre-school will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on August 19, 21, 26 and 28.
Youth Group Fellowship
Senior High Mission Trip
The Senior Highs will be traveling to Shelby, Michigan, at the end of June. Continuing again with Group Work Camps, we will be joining at least 400 youth from around the country to work on local homes in Shelby. Some of us will be painting entire homes, some building fences, even some of us replacing roofs.
The youth have worked all spring on their chair fundraiser and have bonded in preparation for their trip. We are very grateful to the Bartels for letting us stay at their lake house in Baldwin for a night. We are also grateful to those of you who are able to lend us tools to take on the trip with us.
As always we will appreciate your prayers and support while we are away, and we look forward to sharing our experiences with you in worship on June 29th!
Adult Education
The Men’s Bible Study meets every Wednesday at 7 a.m. The Men’s Bible Study continues its work on the Book of Job. We are in the third cycle of speeches, Chapter 22-31.Job’s “friends” continue to explain how the wicked and sinners are punished by God and how this explains Job’s current problems. They do not understand that Job is not a sinner nor wicked. Job battles verbally with them. His position is that he is not a sinner nor wicked and they are not very good friends for suggesting it. It was suggested that perhaps one lesson we can take from Job is that when someone is afflicted, rather than trying to “fix” their problem, we just support them in their distress. We have also observed a prophecy that there will be a messiah. We will continue with Job probably through November and into December. Anyone interested is welcome—Wednesday mornings at 7 a.m.

Mission Opportunities
Food Sunday—July 6 The first Sunday of each month is
Food Sunday at Sunnyside. Canned foods, dry goods,
paper and hygiene products are collected and delivered
to the food pantry at Northeast Neighborhood Center on
Notre Dame Avenue. Cash donations for the purchase of
meat and poultry are also needed and greatly appreciated.
Please bring items to the narthex. A cookie jar is
located there for monetary donations.
Sunnyside House Mission
As many of you know, Sunnyside owns a
home in the Near Northwest Neighborhood.
It has served for many years as a home to
young people from the U.S. and abroad who
have come to work in various service organizations
in the community. This program has
been run by the Mennonite church via Kern
Road Mennonite Church. Sadly, this program
will be coming to a close in South Bend this
Spring.
The Social Ministries Committee would like to
encourage the congregation to participate in
a discussion to determine how this house
may continue to play a part in our mission in
the local community.
Hope Rescue Mission Sunnyside will be serving dinner at Hope Rescue Mission throughout 2008: Sunday, June 22; Saturday, August 30;
Sunday, October 26; Saturday, November 29.Ten volunteers are needed for each meal (2 to do the shopping, 5 to prepare food and 3 to serve). If you, a group of your friends or your family (youth included) would like to help, please call or see a member of the Social Ministries Committee.
Aluminum Cans: Collection boxes for the recycling of aluminum cans have been placed in the cloak room, kitchen, and next to the Coke machine. Profit from the sale of cans will benefit Habitat for Humanity. Pop tabs removed from the cans may be placed in the same boxes. They will be given to Ronald McDonald Family Room with proceeds going toward the purchase of food supplies.
